Roguelike

It has optional permadeath and choices that change a playthrough, but the published loop is a mission-and-Operations tactics campaign.

Quick take

  • Missions and Operations are selected during campaign cycles.
  • Permadeath is optional and enabled by default.

The documented loop

Zero Company runs through cycles at the Den. Players choose Tactical Missions and Operations at the Holotable; both can expire, while story-critical missions become obligatory after a period. Operations occur on the Galaxy Map and can give instant rewards, unlock more work, or change bonds and side missions. Tactical Missions deploy the selected squad to objectives such as sabotage, combat, rescue, retrieval, or hero-focused narrative missions.

Permadeath is a setting, not a genre label

Permadeath is on by default and can be toggled off. A downed operator gains an injury, and three injuries lead to death when permadeath is enabled.

Why this remains noindex

It is reasonable to compare the pressure of optional permanent loss with games that use persistent consequences.
